Visitor statistics
This site uses Google Analytics to count visits so that I can see which pages people read and improve the site. It is used for statistics only: no advertising, no Google signals, no ad personalisation, and I do not try to identify you.
The following is sent to Google Analytics:
- Page views: the page address (including any campaign tags in it, such as
utm_source), the page title, the page you came from, your browser language and screen size. - Time on page: how long the page was open in the foreground, sent when you switch away from it or leave.
- Scrolling: that you scrolled to 90% of a page, once per page view.
- Links to other sites: the address and domain of an external link you click.
- Downloads: the file name, type, address and link text of a document you open from this site, such as my CV.
- With each of these: a random visitor id, the current visit's id and number, the page address and title.
Your browser also sends its usual request details, from which Google derives your browser, operating system, device type and approximate location (city or country, from your IP address); Google does not store the IP address itself in Google Analytics. Nothing you type is collected, and no data is used for advertising, shared with other Google products or linked to you across other websites. Google processes this data on my behalf.
What is stored on your device
No cookies. One item is kept in your browser's local storage for this site,
amg_ga, holding the random visitor id, the current visit's id, how many visits
you have made, how many pages and how much time the current visit has had, and when you were
last active. It lets the statistics count you once across pages and visits rather than as a
new visitor on every page. A visit ends after 30 minutes without activity.
I rely on the exception for statistical purposes in the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (Schedule A1, paragraph 5), so there is no consent banner, but you can object at any time below.
Opting out
Checking…
Opting out deletes amg_ga and stores
amg_ga_optout in your browser, so nothing more is sent from it. It applies to this
browser only. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, nothing is sent either.
